This list includes books, doctoral dissertations, seminal articles, and titles of journals dealing with color theory. Books are listed according to the date of publication or, in the case of those before the invention of printing, the date of writing, as it can be best determined. Sometimes, information about translations and posterior editions are added. Only articles that proved to have had great influence in the history of color theory are included. Journals are listed according to the date of publication of the first number, and, as far as it is available, the span time of publication is given.
